Stony Kill Farm (Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center)
Park Overview:
An Environmental Education Center with many public programs and miles of trails, created from a historic farm.
Park Description:
Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center
Devoted to helping visitors discover the interwoven nature of all living things, facilities at the Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center include a new Learning Center built with "green" construction, a visitor center with exhibits in an 1842 manor house, an 18th century stone farmhouse and 19th century barn (complete with livestock), and another house that dates back to the late 1600s. The grounds include gardens maintained by the Verplanck Garden Club and a trail system that winds through several different ecosystems.
Trails Overview:
The wide trails have easy grades. There are interpretive markings along the 0.5 mile, unblazed wheelchair accessible Woodland Trail. The Verplanck Ridge Trail [yellow blaze] is 1.5 miles long. The Sierra Trail [white blaze, 1.0- or 2.0-mile loop] runs through flat forestland with a marsh and pond near the trail. The unmarked Muller Pond Trail is a scenic one-mile loop trail that circles the pond, while the Freedom Trail [unblazed, 2.5 miles] is a woodland trail.
