Woodfield Reservation
Park Overview:
A reservation near Princeton with two unmarked hiking trails
Park Description:
This 100-acre reservation near Princeton is owned by Princeton. It is a mix of dry hardwood forest and wetland, with an understory of shrubs, ferns, and wildflowers.
From the Park’s web site:
- “Woodfield Reservation is an irregularly shaped tract of almost 100 acres. It is a prime illustration of undisturbed land of Princeton Ridge, which has been called an "island of forest" in a "sea of suburban and agricultural development." The Reservation is covered with a mature forest and has many fairly steep slopes, making it suitable for vigorous walkers. Two of the most interesting features of Woodfield are Council Rock, which overlooks a large, heavily bouldered basin, and Tent Rock, a massive boulder.”
Trails Overview:
Two unmarked hiking trails cross small streams to Council Rock, which overlooks a boulder basin, including Tent Rock. These boulders are the result of weathering and erosion, and were not deposited by glaciers [which did not extend this far south]. The reservation has many fairly steep slopes, making it suitable for vigorous hikes.
